At our long-stay dog residence in Catalonia, we welcome dogs at times in life when you need peace of mind, trust and security for your companion.
It is not always about holidays. Sometimes it is a long work trip, time abroad or a profession that keeps you away from home for extended periods, such as a ship captain, sailor or international worker. It can also be a difficult personal situation, such as illness, recovery or a major life change.
Whatever the reason, your dog does not simply “stay” here; they live with us.
Long-stay dog boarding: when a stay becomes a home
Dogs who spend long periods with us become part of the family. They get to know the routines, spaces and schedules and, above all, form a strong bond with the team and their companions.
That bond means some become our guide dogs: they help newcomers understand what happens at each point of the day. They accompany the others when we move to a different park, when it is time to return to the kennels or when it is time to eat.
With their help, the dogs at the centre can move freely and calmly through the space.
We try to pair each small group of two or three new dogs with a regular or long-stay dog, so the newcomer experiences the routine as something normal and safe. In most cases, they know the daily routine well after just one day.
Our daily routine, adapted to each dog
Every day begins with an early morning outing. We always take into account:
- The weather: heat, cold or rain.
- Each dog’s energy.
- How much time they need to feel satisfied.
The morning outing takes place before breakfast and helps dogs return hungry and settled; it is also intended to help prevent gastric torsion and support good digestion.
Mealtime is the only time of day when each dog is in their own brick-built kennel, a safe and quiet space. They eat:
- Our own chicken dog food.
- Or the food the family brings specifically for their dog.
We also have special salmon and lamb menus, and hypoallergenic options for some cases.
If a dog hesitates to eat, seeing a companion finish their meal can help them understand that it is time to eat, through routine and group learning.
Open spaces, cleaning and stimulation
After breakfast, the dogs return to the yards while we clean the rooms. Once they are clean, many dogs go in to sniff and recognise the space as their own.
Next comes a round of treats or food supplements for dogs who need a little extra encouragement to eat:
- Tins of food.
- Tuna.
- Salmon.
- Or something brought from home.
If you do not bring anything, that is fine: we keep tins, treats, chew sticks and mini snacks, provided the dog has no allergies and their stools are normal.
Walks, groups and play areas
The dogs go out several times a day to relieve themselves, sniff and play. They have their usual group, while regular dogs can move more freely between groups because they know how the centre works.
We have two enclosed fields, where we monitor stools and can quickly let you know if we notice an issue.
At midday, especially in summer, we pay particular attention to:
- Large dogs.
- Dogs with lower energy.
- Breeds with breathing difficulties, such as Boxers and Bulldogs.
At these times, these dogs rest, eat or have a quiet nap, avoiding unnecessary exertion and keeping their health in mind.
Facilities designed for their wellbeing
The centre is set up to keep dogs comfortable throughout the year:
- Natural shade from mulberry trees and awnings in summer.
- Brick-built kennels with heating in winter.
- Air conditioning in some areas.
- A pool and agility obstacles, depending on the season.
Dogs experience things that are different from home: new spaces and smells, companions with compatible size and temperament, play and movement. It is like a canine summer camp, with plenty to do during the day.
That is why they often sleep deeply and peacefully at night. We live just across from the centre, so we are available to the dogs staying with us around the clock.
Dogs with special needs and veterinary care
We have specific protocols for:
- Dogs with incontinence.
- Dogs taking medication.
- Dogs with special needs or allergies.
Medication, special diets and veterinary protocols are managed separately and in a controlled way, with careful attention.
All dogs at the centre are properly wormed. The team takes care of their daily needs and looks after their physical and emotional wellbeing throughout the stay.
Transparency and trust
We like families to see how their dogs live here. Once a dog has settled in, we take videos and photos so families can see who they are with, how they play and how they are part of the group.
